Keeping all the photos selected, go to the Notes field and select the time portion of the date/time and press Delete, leaving only the date.At this point, the date in notes should look like it does in the database date, but the big difference is that the Notes version is a TEXT field, this is what you want. At the top of the metadata properties pane on the right will be a button that says "Apply".Go to the "notes" field right click on it and select paste.Right Click on the Database date in the metadata properties pane on the right, the entry will say "Multiple entries" because you have several photos selected and select copy.I suggest doing this with all the photos with the same date, you don't have to use photos with the same date, but I think it helps to prevent confusion when you batch by date. Select all the photos whose name you want to change. Once you work through it, you will realize it is not time consuming or particularly complex. The instructions below sound complex, but that is because I add all the detail I can think of. I am using the Database date (The date entered into the database) found in the ACDSee Metadata and I know this works, you will need to experiment with the other copyable date fields in the EXIF data if you want those dates. Luckily enough, there is a way you can do this. What is lacking, however, Is the ability to formally change a date/Time stamp into a text field for easier manipulation. And I don't see how you could do that in batch mode very easily anyway. The only reason I can see why you would want not use the Date/Time stamp to rename them in an order different from that natural order. This is a basic requirement of any database management system inside or outside of photographic software.įrankly, I personally would use the default datetime stamp since that will always rename them in the order they were taken or entered into the database. The reason ACDSee behaves this way is that the dates in the ACDSee database appear to be using true database dates and that includes date and time stamp to make sorting, grouping, and selecting images according to date and time possible. Most free tools offer more functionality for renaming, this module should get a makeover.I'm a retired Database administrator. I would like rename just to yyyy-mm-dd - nnn, but I cannot figure out how to get rid of the time. I also stuggle with the limitations compared to other tools.
